Convicted in record time

CHENNAI: A fast track court in Chengalpattu on Tuesday completed the trial and convicted a person accused of murder, and sentenced him to 10 years jail, within a record period of six days and 15 hours.

According to a release, a quarrel broke out between Kannan and his father-in-law Subramani at the latter's house in Vengambakkam in Peerkankaranai police limited on June 29. In the scuffle, Subramani was pushed down and beaten to death. The police arrested the accused, got the post mortem inquest done and filed the chargesheet within 24 hours.

The district Judge Akbar Ali posted the matter before a fast track court at Chengalpattu. The trial was completed within six days and the judge found Kannan guilty and sentenced him to 10 years imprisonment and imposed a fine of Rs.500 on him. The conviction beat the previous record of eight days, which was completed in a case in Mylapore station.
