Collector inspects choke unit

Tuticorin: The Collector, R. Palaniyandi, administered Communal Harmony Day pledge to the staff attached to the departments of Revenue, Rural Development, Social Welfare and Information and Public Relations at the Collectorate here on Friday.

The pledge was taken to commemorate the birth anniversary of former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi.

Earlier, Dr. Palaniyandi inspected an electronic choke manufacturing unit established by the Arivoli Sakthi women self-help group with the help of District Rural Development Agency at Mudivaithanendhal near here.

He interacted with the SHG members and urged them to ensure quality in their products and promote their brand at an economical rate without compromising on quality to penetrate niche markets.

He said the district administration had extended subsidy-linked economic assistance to 666 self-help groups to the tune of Rs. 18.16 crore. Of this, Rs 10.56 crore was bank credit and the rest was subsidy.
