Collection of road tax from Saturday

CHENNAI, MARCH 24. The collection of annual tax for non-transport vehicles such as cars, jeeps and motorcycles for the year 2005-2006 begins from Saturday, March 26. The last date for paying the tax without penalty is April 10, says a communication from the Transport department.

The counters will be open on all days of the week, except Sundays, between 10 a.m. and 1.30 p.m., the release said.

Non-transport vehicles that have completed 15 years from the date of its registration have to pay the green tax. This can be paid along with the motor vehicles tax. Similarly, two wheelers currently paying the annual tax have the option of paying the annual tax or the lifetime tax, depending upon their age. This facility is available at the counters functioning at the Regional Transport Offices and Unit offices only, the release said.

The counters are at the Regional Transport Office (RTO)-Central, Ayanavaram; RTO (North) 10 A/4, First Cross Road, MKB Nagar; RTO (West) K. K. Nagar; RTO (East) Basin Bridge; RTO (South), Tiruvalluvar Nagar, Tiruvanmiyur; RTO (South West), Alwarthirunagar and RTO, Meenambakkam at Alandur, besides the department Unit Offices at 3rd Cross Street, R. K. Nagar, Mandaveli and Tiruvottiyur High Road, New Washermanpet.

The other counters will function at: Automobile Association of Southern India, Anna Salai; MTC Bus Stop, Anna Nagar West and East; MTC depot, Perambur; Jaigopal Garodia Hindu Vidyalaya, Lake View Road, West Mambalam; Vani Mahal, G.N.Chetty Road, T.Nagar; Scooters House, Nandanam; Race Course, Guindy; Secretariat Police Station, Fort St. George; Fire Station, High Court complex; Kannappar Thidal Corporation dispensary; Avvai Home, Adyar; Office of the State Transport Authority, Ezhilagam; P. S. Higher Secondary School, R. K. Mutt Road, Mylapore; YMCA, Royapettah.
