Inaction by Corporation in removing pavement shops protested

CHENNAI: Members of the Madras Washermenpet Cut Piece Cloth Merchants' Association staged a demonstration on Thursday, protesting against the inaction by the Chennai Corporation in removing shops on the pavements.

The protesters said the Court had issued order to remove all the shops on the pavement and a suitable place be given to the roadside vendors.

However, the Corporation authorities had not taken any action so far, they charged. In spite of court orders, pavement sellers continued to operate on M.C. Road and G.A. Road; in addition a large number of new shops were also proposed on the pavement, they said.
