Civic polls: BJP to go it alone

Special Correspondent

HYDERABAD: The BJP will go alone in the coming municipal polls. It will contest in all the municipalities, corporations and individual wards/divisions throughout Andhra Pradesh.

A decision to the effect was taken by the State office-bearers meeting of the party here on Monday. The BJP leaders refuted the suggestion that their decision to contest the elections alone was driven by the recent announcement of the TDP president, N. Chandrababu Naidu, that his party would not forge any alliances. In fact, the BJP had decided against continuing its alliance with the TDP in July last year, the State president, N. Indrasena Reddy, the vice-presidents, S.V. Seshagiri Rao and G. Ramakrishna Reddy, and the general secretary, K. Laxman, told reporters. Initially, when a broader alliance with the TDP at the State-level was ruled out, the district units were given the freedom to strike adjustments with that party locally.
