Checkpost raided, 2 officials arrested

SALEM: Sleuths of the Salem and Dharmapuri units of the Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption (DV and AC) carried out a pre-dawn raid on the outward checkpost of the Commercial Tax Department at Hosur in Krishnagiri district on Friday and arrested two officials on charges of accepting bribe.

DV and AC sources said that based on the complaint preferred by a Coimbatore-based handloom fabrics manufacturer Prakash that the officials at the outward checkpost at Hosur were demanding money for permitting lorry to pass through the check-post, the DV and AC, SP R. Asokan, ordered an immediate raid.

Accordingly two teams led by Salem DSP L. Panneerselvam and Dharmapuri DSP Durai Muthusamy raided the checkpost and caught the two officials accepting Rs. 7,000 as bribe. They also seized an accounted sum of Rs. 4,100 from the premises.
