Call for more campaign on AIDS

CRUSADERS: NCC cadets take out an AIDS Day campaign rally in Kannur on Thursday.

KANNUR: Awareness rallies, poster exhibitions, cultural programmes involving students, NCC cadets and voluntary organisations were held in different parts of the district to mark the World Aids Day on Thursday.

Students from in and around Iritty participated in the rally held at Iritty under the aegis of the Y's Men Club, Navajyothi Partnership in Sexual Health Project and Community Health Centre (CHC).

The procession highlighted the Aids Day message.

Y's Men India area president M.V. Gopalan inaugurated the rally.

Keezhur-Chavassery panchayat president P.P. Ashokan, Iritty block panchayat president P. Rosa and Sisily James of Navajyothi were present at the function.

Students and NCC cadets participated in a mass run.

Iritty Dy.SP K. Prakash flagged off the run.

A poster exhibition was held in the town on the occasion. CHC doctor R. Rajiv read out the AIDS Day message.

The rally was held by the 31 Kerala Battalion NCC here.

The rally, which began from the Collectorate Maidan, concluded near the Mahatma Mandiram.

It was flagged off by NCC Commanding Officer Rajiv Nair.

Lt. Col. Sanjay Sharma, Subedar Major Alosius, NCC officers C.P. Sathish, Nithyanandan and Vinod Kumar led the rally.

NCC cadets of S.N. College, Kannur; SES College, Sreekantapuram; Government Polytechnic, Thottada; PRNSS College, Mattannur and Nirmalagiri College, Koothuparamba attended the rally. The S.N. College Principal-in-charge P.K. Bhaskaran inaugurated a seminar.
