Burglars strike at Velachery apartments

CHENNAI DEC. 24. Burglars broke into two apartments at Velachery on Tuesday and stole cash and jewels, when the residents were away.

The burglary came to light this morning when the occupants of Akash Apartments noticed the doors open. Police said the burglars first broke into the second floor flat of Anand, an engineer in Singapore, and stole cash and jewels worth Rs.60,000. Anand locked his flat and given the keys to a relative before going to Singapore two months ago. The culprits later broke into a ground floor apartment in the same building and stole jewels weighing 10 sovereigns, worth Rs.10,000.

Falls to death

A van driver died when he slipped and fell into an unused well adjacent to the Inner Ring Road at Kamala Nehru Nagar on Wednesday. Choolaimedu police said the body of G.Murugan, 27, was found floating.
