He is being quizzed by airport Customs

CHENNAI: A US-based doctor, who arrived here by a Lufthansa flight from San Francisco via Frankfurt on Sunday morning, is being quizzed by airport Customs since his checked-in luggage, which reached on Monday, contained "questionable items including bullets and empty cartridges."

According to customs, the dentist based in San Francisco, was asked to report to the customs after the items were detected during scanning.

"We have seized the baggage and the contents, impounded the passenger's passport and recorded a statement. We have sought the State Forensic Science department's assistance to ascertain the lethality of the baggage before taking further action".

The passenger claimed that the items did not belong to him and were handed over by another person. Customs authorities have issued summons to the passenger to depose before them on Wednesday.

Central and State Intelligence agencies have sought information from the Customs authorities and the passenger on the reasons for bringing the bullets in a checked-in baggage that had escaped the attention of the authorities of San Fransisco and Frankfurt airports.
