BSNL to install 67 towers in Erode district

ERODE, OCT. 11 . With a view to providing more cellular connections in the district, BSNL would install 67 towers in 2004-05, the General Manager, BSNL, A. Balasubramaniam, has said.

Talking to the media here today he said that one tower would be installed at Thalawady and the others would come up before the end of March 2005. The installation at Rajan Nagar near Bannari was completed.

Of the 3,700 prepaid cards to be distributed this month to customers in the district, 500 each would be available at Sathyamangalam, Bhavani and Vellakoil and 200 each in Avalpoondurai, Anthiyur, Dasagoundenpudur, Chennimalai, Kanjikoil, Kavindapady, Modakurichi, Sivagiri, Kunnathur, Punjaipuliampatty and Vijayamangalam. Owners of BSNL STD/PCOs could collect prepaid cards for distribution to their customers after showing their last bill remittance at the Customer Service Centres.

A new recharge value of Rs. 3,000 with full talktime for prepaid cards was now available, valid for a year. Even if the amount expired, the customer would continue to receive calls for that year. He said that the demand for landline phones was decreasing and the surrender of telephones was higher than new connections. For the reconnection of disconnected landline phones, the rent was waived for the disconnected period. The subscribers need to pay only the arrears and reconnection charges, he said and asked the subscribers to avail themselves of the facility. Similarly, the number of free calls for urban subscribers under the Economy Plan was increased from 150 to 200 per month. Manual trunk booking system was abolished and from October 6, trunk booking in the district had been computerised with Interactive Voice Response System (IVRS).
