BANGALORE, DEC. 30. The Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BMP), in association with officials of Southern Railways, will pull down hoardings that have been put up unauthorisedly in and around the Cantonment area.

After an inspection of garbage clearance in several areas of the Jayamahal constituency on Saturday, the Mayor, Mr. K.Chandrashekar, directed the BMP officials to coordinate with officials of the Railways and initiate measures to remove the hoardings.

The Mayor noticed that most of the hoardings put up on Railway land were not only in violation of the BMP norms but were also causing traffic hindrances.

He inspected the Freedom Fighters' Park (Coles Park) and asked the Horticulture officers to immediately remove the nursery from the park. ``Clear the park of all old and unused material, including unauthorised structures and the water tank within February 2, and create more greenery,'' the Mayor told the officials.

The Mayor was accompanied by the Tourism Minister, Mr. Roshan Baig, the Deputy Mayor, Mr. R.Shankar, the BMP Commissioner, Mr. Ashok M.Dalwai, and corporators, M/s. Jayalakshmi, Suryanarayan, A.R.Zakir, Gunashekar, and the BMP officials.

The team also inspected the major storm water drain running through Netaji Road, the surrounding slums, the BMP playground

in Pottery Town and the BMP Health Centre.

Responding to complaints from the residents that the playground became a cess pool even after a light rainfall, the Minister and the Mayor asked the Commissioner to initiate measures to solve the problem.
