Residents block the road demanding water and toilet

TIRUPUR: A road blockade and an accident involving a tanker lorry hit traffic here on Wednesday.

Traffic was disrupted on Palladam road when nearly 100 residents of Thattanthoottam blocked the road, for nearly two hours, demanding proper water supply and public toilet at their place.

On Dharapuram Road, a water tanker's wheel got stuck in a manhole disrupting traffic for nearly three hours.

A motorbike caught in its rear wheel adding to the trauma. Its driver escaped unhurt.

Vehicular movement came to a standstill as either side of the road chocked with vehicles.

As the attempts made by the Revenue Divisional Officer V. Kandavel and Municipal Engineer M.Ravi went in vain, the road blockade continued for nearly two hours.

Traffic was resumed only after the Assistant Superintendent of Police, V. Balakrishnan, took the protesting residents off the road for talks.
