CHENNAI: The Bharatiya Janata Party will raise the Volcker Committee report controversy in the coming winter session of Parliament, party vice-president M. Venkaiah Naidu, said on Monday.

The party will confront the Government with numerous questions arising out of the Volcker episode, Mr. Naidu said, after taking part in a demonstration near Valluvar Kottam here.

To probe into the issue, material had to be obtained from different countries, for which the Justice R.S. Pathak Inquiry Authority had no powers. So the Central Bureau of Investigation should be involved in the matter and criminal proceedings initiated, Mr. Naidu said. A judicial inquiry could go on simultaneously.

Criticising the Government's approach, Mr. Naidu asked why it had delayed constituting the authority, if it was convinced that there was nothing against it in the committee's report.

Demanding the resignation of Union Minister K. Natwar Singh from the Cabinet, the BJP leader said: "Our campaign is not against any individual or even the Congress party. We are more concerned about the prestige and fame of the country."

He also wondered what would be the state of the country's security when major political parties were accused of having received funds from many countries.

Other leaders of the party including S. Thirunavukkarasar, Bandaru Dattatreya, C.P. Radhakrishnan, K.N. Lakshmanan and G. Kumaravelu took part in the demonstration, which was organised as part of the nationwide agitation.
