`BJP committed to separate Telangana'

HYDERABAD DEC. 4. Senior BJP leader and Union Minister of State for Commerce and Industry, Ch. Vidyasagar Rao, has reiterated that the BJP was committed to a separate Telangana and its electoral tie-up with the TDP was out of political compulsion to prevent split of the anti-Congress vote in the State.

Interacting briefly with reporters on the sidelines of a seminar on `Anti-dumping and allied matters,' he ruled out any question of the BJP skirting the separate Telangana issue. "It is important for us," he said, adding that the issue was clarified umpteen times by party leaders. He said the BJP was not in agreement with the TDP's view that the coming elections would be a verdict on "united Andhra" and that it would also be a referendum on the naxalite issue.

Hailing the good show put up by the BJP in the elections in Rajasthan, Chhattisgarh and Madhya Pradesh, he said the results had proved that the Prime Minister, Atal BihariVajpayee, was the undisputed leader of the country.
