TUTICORIN: The Nehru Yuva Kendra, a body under the Union Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, celebrated its foundation day in Tuticorin on Tuesday.

Collector R. Palaniyandi gave away awards to a youth club and two individuals for their service.

Members of `Senthooram Mahilar Manram' bagged the award for their achievement in the fields of health education, blood donation and HIV awareness.

The club received a citation and Rs. 10,000 in cash.

Munnusamy of Dr. Ambedkar Youth Club and Paul Raj of Ayyan Thiruvalluvar Youth Club received Rs. 2,000 each and citations.

While Mr. Munnusamy gave free computer training to 60 rural people from Ottapidaram, Mr. Paulraj conducted sports events and planted trees at Kulathur.

R. Mathivannan, district youth co-ordinator of the kendra, was present.
