Vasan gives away Kalki Sadasivam Memorial Award

CHENNAI: Union Minister of State for Statistics and Project Implementation G.K. Vasan presented here on Saturday the 2005 Kalki Sadasivam Memorial Award for the outstanding advertisement published in the Tamil print media to R.K. Swamy BBDO Advertising Agency. A citation and a cheque for Rs.10, 000 was handed over to Srinivasan K. Swamy, Chief Executive Officer of the agency.

Mr. Vasan traced his late father, G.K. Moopanar's association with the Kalki family and late M.S. Subbulakshmi and Sadasivam. He also paid tributes to the journalistic skills of Kalki and lauded the group for bringing out exclusive magazines for children and women.

He appealed to T.K. Rajendran, president, Kalki Sadasivam Memorial Trust, which instituted the award, to re-print the Kalki Malar, "Kurai Onrum Illai," which not only had rare photographs but thought provoking articles. Mr. Srinivasan Swamy, who donated the amount to the trust, said the agency was proud of having won the award. The award winning advertisement represented one of the initiatives of Karur Vysya Bank.

V. Ramnarayanan, one of the trustees, said the selection was based on truthfulness, creativity and socially relevant themes. He also read out a message of goodwill sent by M.A.M. Ramaswamy, industrialist, who had donated Rs.1 lakh on behalf of Sir Rajah Annamalai Chettiar Memorial Trust to the Kalki Sadasivam Memorial Trust.

Bharathi Bhasker delivered a special Kalki Sadasivam Memorial Trust lecture on `Bharathi'.
