Decision was taken after consulting the business community

ATTUR: The Attur Municipality has decided to convert the old bus stand into a full-fledged commercial complex at a cost of Rs. 1 crore.

High demand

According to municipal officials, the decision has been taken after consulting the business community in the town. A few private sector banks, government banks, insurance companies and private business establishments have shown willingness to rent the shops.

Vacant space

"Not many buildings in the area have good parking facility and spacious rooms to set up an office or a business outlet. The old bus stand, which remained unutilised after construction of the new bus stand, has large vacant space. Hence, we have planned to utilise the place to construct a complex with two floors," the Municipal Commissioner, R. Mathinathan, said.

A total of 24 shops will be constructed in the ground floor and three in the first floor. A large parking facility will also be created in the bus stand. "The shops will be constructed in a manner that suits the requirements of the business community here," he added.

The municipality, however, will not disturb the existing shops in the bus stand for the construction.

Financial support

A proposal seeking financial assistance for the construction has been sent to the Tamil Nadu Urban Infrastructure Development Project - III.
