Assault case: charge sheet likely next month

CHENNAI, MARCH 24. With a city court granting tender of pardon to Ravi Subramaniam, the process of filing charge sheet in the case of attack on S. Radhakrishnan of Mandaveli in September 2002 is expected to be filed next month. Enquiries reveal that statements of two more witnesses in Thanjavur district have to be recorded and the police are already on the job.

Ravi Subramaniam, who had already turned approver in the "Kanchi Sankararaman murder case," expressed his intention to become approver in the attack case also. As part of the proceedings to turn approver, he gave a statement to the VI Metropolitan Magistrate, Egmore, on March 7. He was granted tender of pardon by a Magistrate at Saidapet on Wednesday.

Sources say that a couple of witnesses have to be examined in connection with a money transaction. An amount given by a person found its way to a hireling who was cited as an accused in the attack case. Nearly 40 witnesses have been examined in the case so far. Victims have already identified the accused. As the process of granting tender of pardon has been completed, the stage is set for filing of the charge sheet.
