Power cut

CHENNAI: Power supply will be suspended in Kilpauk, Muthialpet, Park Town, Purasawalkam, Pulianthope, Nammalwarpet, Nungambakkam, RA Puram SS, Korattur, KK Nagar, Mandaveli, Santhome, Thirumudivakkam SS, Sowcarpet (East), Adayar, Korrukkupet, K Kannadasan Nagar and Dhasarathapuram on January 24 between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. for maintenance work. Supply will be resumed before 5 p.m. if the work is completed.

Balwadis renovated

Madras Midtown Ladies Circle 7 (member, Ladies Circle India) and Asha Chennai have renovated the ICDS balwadis 1054, 1057 and 1088 at Ekambaram Pillai St, Mylapore. The Child Development Scheme-run balwadis lacked electricity, sewerage connection and has a leaking roof. These have now been corrected and other improvements to the infrastructure have also been made.

Training for women

Shi-Ba Academy, Villivakkam is organising a workshop for women interested in conducting camps for children from 3-12 years. Narayana Seva camp

Hindu Mission Hospital held its 281st Narayana Seva Camp where 201 patients were treated. The camp was held at Panchayath Union Elementary School, Vella Puthur on January 22. The medical camp included a general physical along with dental, eye, paediatric, gynaecological, ENT and skin check-up.

Lecture on yoga

The YRC Unit of Guru Shree Shantivijai Jain College for Women organised a guest lecture followed by a demonstration on "Discovering Higher Possibilities through Yoga" recently. Ananda Chaitanya, founder of Vidhya Vahini Trust and Yoga Vidhya Centre, spoke about spiritual values. This was followed by a demonstration of asanas.

Essay contest results

The results of the essay competition, organised by the city-based NGO Nandini Voice for the Deprived, have been announced. Out of the 114 entries from across the country, four students have won prizes. Nikhil Jha of Banaras Hindu University, Varanasi; G. Krishnamurthy of Veltech Engineering College, Chennai; P. Vidhya of Avinashilingam Deemed University, Coimbatore; and Ahmar Moin of Aligarh Muslim University, Aligarh received cash prizes.
