Three more quacks arrestedTIRUCHI: Three more quacks were taken into custody in the district on Saturday.

Special police teams conducted surprise checks in private clinics in and around Thattiengarpettai and Ramjinagar and took into custody E. Parthasarathy (35), P. Mathiazhagan (46), both of Thattiengarpettai and S. Rajagopalan (32) of Ariyavur near Ramjinagar. They were remanded to custody.

Prohibitory order promulgatedThe City Police Commissioner, Prateep V. Philip, has promulgated a prohibitory order under Sec. 41 (2) of the Chennai City Police Act in the city banning unlawful assembly, processions etc., for a period of 15 days.

An official release issued here on Saturday said the order came into effect on March 17.

No drinking water supply tomorrowDrinking water supply will remain suspended in the following areas from 8 a.m. on Monday to noon on Tuesday owing to maintenance works being taken up at the Kamabarasampettai main pumping station: Thillai Nagar, Thennur, Anna Nagar, Puthur, Kumaran Nagar, Srinivasa Nagar, Uyyakondan Thirumalai, Shanmuga Nagar, Khajamalai, Cantonment, Khajapet, Karumandapam, Ponnagar, Milaguparai, Chathram Bus Stand, Chinthamani, Devadhanam, Andar Street, Rockfort, Big Bazaar Street, East Boulevard Road, West Boulevard Road, Virugupettai, Varaganeri, Tharanallur, Mahalakshmi Nagar, Marakkadai, Salai Road, Woraiyur and Ramalinga Nagar.

Regular supply would be restored from March 22, according to a press release.

MeetingMembers of the State Bank Staff Union, Tiruchi Module, held a centralised meeting here on Saturday to discuss the circumstances that led to the agitation in support of their seven-point charter of demands. The demands included compensation for late setting by way of overtime wages, review of redeployment policy, recruitment in all cadres, uniform medical benefits for all category of staff.

The deputy general secretary, Madurai zone, S. Kannan, said that a series of agitations were held so far including a dharna in front of the zonal office of the bank on Friday.

He emphasised the need for the present agitation. Asokan, Chandra Gilbert and Dhavaraj, all deputy general secretaries, also spoke. Employees of the State Bank of India from Tiruchi, Karur and Perambalur participated in the meeting.
