SI commits suicide

MADURAI: Sasi Baby, a Sub-Inspector attached to the Samayanallur police station in the district, allegedly committed suicide here on Wednesday. The victim consumed poison at her residence in Karimedu last evening. She was admitted to the Government Rajaji Hospital where she succumbed. The Karimedu police are investigating.

Customers' meet

A customers' meet was organised by Indian Overseas Bank recently to commemorate Vigilance Awareness Week and customer fortnight. It was presided over by the Chief Regional Manager, B.S. Keshavamurthy. After listening to the suggestions from customers on improvement of services and installation of automated teller machines, Mr. Keshavamurthy assured them that they would be implemented.

Camp on HIV/AIDS

A three-day rehabilitation camp on `Prevention of human trafficking and HIV/AIDS' was organised by Nehru Yuva Kendra from November 3. According to a release, 65 volunteers from Madurai, Sivaganga, Ramanathapuram, Virudhunagar and Dindigul districts took part in the programme. M. Sivaraman of Gandhigram Rural Institute gave away the certificates. C. Ramasubramanian, Head, Department of Psychiatry, Government Rajaji Hospital, spoke.

Power shutdown

There will be a power shutdown in the following areas between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. on Saturday:

Goripalayam, Government Rajaji Hospital, Panagal Road, Alwarpuram, Vaigai Vadakarai, Palam Station Road, Anna Bus Stand, Gandhi Nagar, Mathichiyam, Shenoy Nagar, Medical College, American College, Jamburopuram, Sellur, Kulamangalam Road, LIC Office, Aruldosspuram, Thathaneri, Kuruvikkaran Salai, Srinivasa Perumal Temple, Lakshmipuram, Narasimhapuram, Sourashtra Boys School, Munichalai, Karumbalai, Kamala Nagar and Thangaraj Road, according to a Tamil Nadu Electricity Board release.
