Assistance given awayTIRUCHI: The District Collector, Ashish Vachhani, gave away assistance worth about Rs.5. 60 lakhs to 90 villagers at a special mass contact day programme held at Muthazhwarpatti near Manapparai taluk recently.

Over 400 petitions were received it on the occasion.

Presiding over the programme, the Collector said steps would be taken to set up a sub-station at Puthanatham for supplying quality power to the village, if the villagers came forward to give the site to the Tamil Nadu Electricity Board.

He also assured the villagers that the Panchayat Union Middle School in the village would be upgraded into a high school.

The Marungapuri MLA, C. Chinnasamy; the District Supply Officer, A. Ponnuraj were among those who spoke.

Health campsThe special preventive health care camps under the `Varum mun kappom' programme will be inaugurated at Kannanur village near Thuraiyur on December 31.

The Forest Minister, K. N. Nehru, will inaugurate it.

In a press release issued here on Monday, the District Collector, Ashish Vachhani, said that about 340 camps would be held in all the village panchayats in the district in two years till 2008, on Fridays and Saturdays. Fourteen camps in villages and 15 in corporation limits would be held every month. Assisted by about 100 para-medical personnel, a total of 25 specialists would screen the patients, the release added.

Special gram sabha meetingSpecial `grama sabha' meeting will be held in 82 village panchayats selected for the implementation of the `All Village Anna Marumalarchi Thittam' in the district. The special grama sabha would be convened on December 30, the District Collector, Ashish Vachhani, said in a press release issued here on Monday.

He said that the special meeting would sanction approval for the developmental works to be launched in these village panchayats.

This is the first phase of the implementation of the developmental programme for which Rs. 20 lakhs had been sanctioned for each village panchayat.

The other panchayats would be covered in a phased manner in course of time, the release added.

Mettur levelThe level at the Mettur dam stood at 105.03 feet against it full level of 120 feet on Monday.
