TIRUCHI, DEC.6. The city today registered a maximum temperature of 29.3 degree Celsius and a minimum of 19.8 degree Celsius.

Bomb hoax

in school

An anonymous telephone call to a private school at Devadhanam here today stating that a bomb was planted in the institution created anxious moments to the authorities. However, the call turned out to be hoax.

The school authorities alerted the police control room. An alert was sounded to the Bomb Detection and Disposal Squad, who conducted a thorough check along with the police for over an hour.

However, the squad could not detect any explosive substance. So, the school functioned as usual after the checks were over.

Sanitary complexes

The Mayorm, Sarubala. R. Tondaiman, declared open 13 integrated sanitary complexes, constructed at a cost of Rs. 52 lakhs, here today.

This includes five in the Srirangam zone and eight in K. Abhishekapuram zone. The Mayor declared open two additional buildings at the Melur Ayyannar Elementary School and Nehruji Corporation Elementary School, constructed at a cost of Rs. 17 lakhs in the Srirngam zone.

The Srirangam MLA, K.K.Balasubramanian, the Corporation Commissioner, Harmander Singh, the city engineer, V. Sivaraman, participated.



A local holiday has been declared on December 22 in view of the Vaikunda Ekadasi festival at the Srirangam Ranganathaswamy Temple.

The Collector, V.Pandian, in a press release, said that all government offices and schools would remain closed in the district. However, the holiday would not come under the Negotiable Instruments Act. So, the district treasury and sub-treasuries would function with skeleton staff.

Government offices and schools would function on January 8 in lieu of the holiday.

Power shutdown

There will be no power supply from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Tuesday in the following areas owing to maintenance work to be taken up by the TNEB at the Kambarasampettai 110/11 KV sub-station: Srirangam, Periyar Nagar, Ganapathi Nagar, Sivaram Nagar, Thiruvanaikovil, Thiruvalarsolai, Panaiyapuram, Uttamarseeli and Killikoodu.

Mettur level

The level in the Mettur reservoir stood at 99.69 feet today. The inflow was 4,093 cusecs and the discharge 7,219 cusecs.
