CHENNAI, NOV. 29. The sky will be partly cloudy on Tuesday. The minimum temperature will be around 21 degrees Celsius.

On Monday, Nungambakkam and Meenambakkam recorded a maximum temperature of 30.5 and 30.3 degrees Celsius and a minimum of 20.9 and 21.4 degrees Celsius. The humidity was 65 and 76 per cent.

Diabetes month

The Sowcarpet branch of ICICI and Lions Club of Fort St. George, Fort Lions Charitable Trust observed diabetes month by organising diabetes detection and blood donation camps for customers of the bank as well as the public. In all, 35 units of blood were collected and more than 120 persons screened for diabetes.

Govinda Samy Thangaraj of Lions Club and Bharat Ruddra of ICICI Bank participated.


Surekha Ben Mehta, social worker and long-time volunteer at Sankara Nethralaya Women Auxiliary, has bagged the `For The Sake of Honour Award' instituted by the Rotary Club South West.

Ms. Mehta has also taken keen interest in promoting education among Adivasi children at Banaskantha, North Gujarat for the past 18 years.

Business skills

The Entrepreneur Promotional Institute of Chennai is organising a free orientation programme on December 4 for the benefit of prospective and existing women entrepreneurs.

The session will help women acquire skills for prospective business opportunities, getting loans, bank schemes and preparation of project reports.

Eye camp

Singhvi Charitable Trust conducted an eye and dental camp at Government Higher Secondary School, Marakkanam, Villupuram district.

In all, 406 persons were screened of whom 84 were provided free medicines for eye-related problems and 226 given spectacles. In addition, 85 persons were screened for dental ailments and given medicines.
