TIRUCHI, OCT.11. The city today registered a maximum temperature of 33.7 degree Celsius and a minimum of 24.2 degree Celsius.

Jewels, cash stolen

About 18 sovereigns of gold jewellery, 1.5 kg silver, 100 packets of imitation jewellery, and Rs. 25,000 in cash were reportedly stolen from a residence at Sivanagar Fifth Cross, Ramalinga Nagar, today.

While the police claimed that the complainant, Raja (32), a jewellery shop owner, was on the ground floor of his house at the time of the incident, the complaint said the inmates had gone outstation and had detected the theft this morning upon their return.

The intruders were said to have decamped with the jewellery and cash kept on the first floor. The police are investigating.

Taken for questioning

The airport police have taken for questioning several people including an Assistant Engineer of the Highways Department, Senthil Kumar of Cauvery Nagar, in whose house an electric motor was allegedly stolen by Muthu alias Muthuraman (28) and subsequently the intruder was fatally beaten by a group of people.

The youth, who sustained serious injuries, died on way to the K.A.P. Viswanatham Government Medical Hospital.

Youth found murdered

A youth was reportedly found murdered roadside near Perur between Jeeyapuram and Kulumani today.

The police identified the youth as Raju (27), a farmer of Mekkudi near Usilampatti. The police are investigating.

Power shutdown

In view of maintenance works in the Kambarasanpettai Sub-Station, there will be power shutdown in the following areas between 9.00 a.m. and 3.00 p.m. on October 12: Srirangam, Periyar Nagar, Ganapathi Nagar, Sivaram Nagar, Tiruvanaikovil, Tiruvalarsolai, Panayapuram, Uttamarseeli, and Kilikoodu, according to a TNEB release.

Mettur level

The level at the Mettur reservoir today stood at 82.95 feet. The inflow was 3,548 cusecs and the discharge 15,053 cusecs.
