TIRUCHI, AUG.1 . The city today registered a maximum temperature of 34.4 degree Celsius and a minimum of 26. degree Celsius.

Special AIR programme

In connection with Adi Perukku festival on Monday, the Tiruchi station of All India Radio will broadcast a live programme of film songs by interviewing those at Mokkumbu from 8-45 a.m. to 10-30 a.m. and those on the Cauvery bridge from 6-15 p.m. to 7 p.m. on the FM channel.

Another programme called `Cauveriye... Kavikuyile' would be broadcast between 10-30 a.m. and 12 noon.

New premises for bank

The Manapparai Town Cooperative Bank has proposed to construct new premises at an outlay of Rs. 8.80 lakhs to enable expansion activities. The Regional Cooperatives Society has accorded its sanction and the work would begin shortly. All accounts of the bank have been computerised. The bank managed to earn a profit of Rs. 10.66 lakhs during last year and its members were given 12 per cent dividend, according to the special officer of the bank, M. Marachi.

Ration rice seized

A joint raid conducted by the revenue and police officials led to seizure of 21 bags containing 1,017 kg of ration rice from near the Gandhi Market area. In a press release, the Collector, V. Pandian, said the team spotted the bags lying abandoned and seized the same. Later, the bags were handed over to the Amaravathi Cooperative Super Market.


The Mayor, Sarubala R. Thondaiman, on Saturday inspected the drinking water head pumping station at Kambarasampettai. Later, she inspected the electric crematorium at Oyyamari and the Ammamandapam bathing ghat on the bank of the Cauvery. She visited the integrated sanitary complex under construction near Naganathar Swami temple.

Mettur level

The water level at the Mettur reservoir stood at 73.33 feet today. The inflow was 10,844 cusecs and the discharge was 1000 cusecs.
