Talent test on Dec. 11

MADURAI: The National Talent Test for school students will be held on December 11. Nearly 500 students have applied for the test that provides scholarship till higher education.

According to Education Department authorities here, special coaching for the test began on Saturday at three schools in the district. Coaching classes are conducted at Government Girls Higher Secondary School, Melur, Government Girls Higher Secondary School, Tirumangalam, and U. C. Higher Secondary School in Madurai. Students of standard IX will sit for the talent test.

Chamber office-bearers

The following were elected office-bearers of Tamil Nadu Chamber of Commerce and Industry for 2005-06 at the annual general meeting held here on Friday: SP. Annamalai, J. Rajamohan and V. Neethi Mohan (vice-presidents), K. N. Vijayakumar and G. Elangovan (joint secretaries).

Yoga training

The yoga Research Centre of Madura College offers its regular one-month intensive training programme on yogasana and yoga therapy from December 5.

Saiva Siddantha programme held

A 10-day training programme in Saiva Siddhantha concluded at Thiagarajar College on Thursday.

Eighty-three trainees from various places, including Chennai and Tiruchi, participated in the programme. The participants were also taken around various heritage spots to learn `sthala' history. The president of the college, Radha Thiagarajan, distributed certificates to participants. The Principal, M. Arunagiri, spoke.

Lions' bid a success

The all-woman Lions Club of Madurai Temple City successfully motivated 50 women to undergo family planning operation in the Family Planning Association of India at Ellis Nagar on Monday.

This is part of the various welfare activities undertaken by the club.

UBI's "Traders' Meet"

A "Traders' Meet" was organised by Union Bank of India recently in which leading traders and businessmen participated. An interaction was also organised between traders and bank officials on the occasion.
