Chain snatched

MADURAI: A woman was relieved of her gold chain by a motorcyclist at Ponmeni Jainagar on Monday.

According to police sources, C. Vanitha Padmaja, was walking along the road when the motorcyclist snatched her four sovereign gold chain and fled the scene.


Telecom services will be disrupted, as the BSNL will take up equipment upgrading work at the East Masi telephone exchange at midnight of November 15.

Those landlines starting with 232, 233 (East Masi exchange), 2312 (Teppakulam exchange) and those in Anupanadi exchange and wireless in local loop connections starting with 205, 206, 207, 208, 209, 210 and 21 would be affected for a shorter duration.

No water supply

The Corporation will suspend the drinking water supply the 26 wards on the southern side of the Vaigai on November 16 and 17, as the work to divert the main pipeline will be taken up in connection with the construction of the road overbridge near Periyar bridge.

The people of wards 31, 32, 38 to 46 and 50 to 64 have been advised to storage sufficient water and use it judiciously.


Tamil Nadu Electricity Consumers Association will conduct a seminar on `Tamil Nadu Electricity Regulatory Commission proceedings' and an interactive session on `Current status of legal matters' at Hotel Sangam at 10 a.m. on November 18 for the benefit of power consumers.

Eminent persons associated with the power sector will address the seminar. The extension counter of the Syndicate Bank at EMG Yadava Women's College, Tiruppalai, was upgraded into a full-fledged branch on Monday.

According to a press release, the college president, E. M. G. Soundarajan, inaugurated the branch. The Principal, Vasantha, the Senior Branch Manager, Madurai Main, T. Gajapathy, and V. Ponnusamy, Tiruppalai Branch Manager, were present.

Awareness walks

Awareness walks and programmes were organised by various hospitals on Monday to observe World Diabetes Day.

NS Hospitals organised a walkathon from Palaganatham to Periyar Bus Stand. An exhibition and film show were part of the programme. Doctors, industrialists, laboratory assistants, auto drivers and the public participated.

Shenbagam Hospital organised an awareness walk from the hospital to K.K. Nagar Arch in which students and teachers of Idhayam Rajendran Residential School, Samanatham, participated.

The president, Tamil Nadu Chamber of Commerce and Industry, S. Rethinavelu, presided over both the walks. — Staff Reporter
