Student suspended

TIRUCHI: A student of the Government Law College was suspended for eve-teasing a senior student. The college principal suspended Mahesh Kumar, a III-year student, based on a complaint made by the IV-year girl student. The college has formed a committee to enquire into the complaint.

House burgled

A sum of Rs.5,000 and silver articles were stolen from the house of a retired Railway employee at Patel Street under Srirangam police station limits on Thursday.

Police said the complainant, Ramasamy (74), upon his return from Chennai, found the articles stolen. Intruders had gained entry through a ventilator.

Train halt at Srirangam

The Chennai Egmore-Madurai-Chennai Egmore Vaigai Express (Nos.2635/2636) will halt at the Srirangam Railway Station for a minute from September 30 to October 10 in view of the ongoing Cauvery Pushkaram Brahma Yagna festival, according to a release from C. K. Sivaraj, Public Relations Officer, Southern Railway, Tiruchi.

Meeting

District-level meetings of Tamil Nadu Disabled Coordination Council would be held once in every three months to review implementation of rehabilitation measures for the welfare of the handicapped. A decision to this effect was taken at its meeting held here on Wednesday. The Special Commissioner for Rehabilitation of Disabled, Mohan Varghese Chunkath, chaired the meeting.

The Collector, K.Nanda Kishore, and the DRDA Project Officer, M.Manohara Singh, participated in the meeting.

Helpline

The Tamil Nadu Consumer Federation has urged the State Government to constitute a Helpline Committee in the Registration Department.

A resolution adopted at its executive committee meeting held here recently urged the Chief Minister to check irregularities in the functioning of the department. Despite computerisation of the department, lack of transparency posed hardships to the public.

Selection trials

The district-level selection trials for rural sportspersons of different disciplines would be held at the Anna Stadium here on October 5, says the Collector, K.Nanda Kishore, in a press release. Sportspersons in kabbadi, kho-kho, football, volleyball, weightlifting and athletics could participate in the trials. Those selected would qualify to participate in the State-level selection for representation in national-level competitions.
