Water level

MADURAI: The level in the Periyar dam on Thursday stood at 127.7 feet with an inflow of 490 cusecs and a discharge of 1,557 cusecs. The level in the Vaigai dam was 35.89 feet with an inflow of 1,139 cusecs and a discharge of 1,171 cusecs. The combined Periyar credit stood at 5,314 mcft.

Mettupatti recorded 20 mm of rainfall followed by Periyar dam and Kallandiri 19 each, Sathaiyar dam 17, Andipatti 10 and Pulipatti 7.

Water supply affected

Water supply in certain pockets of northern parts of the city was affected on Thursday following a burst in the main pipeline at Sellur on Wednesday night. Commissioner D.J. Dinakkaren inspected the spot and directed City Engineer K. Sakthivel, Assistant Executive Engineer P.R. Ramkumar and Assistant Engineer Ayyanar to repair it immediately.

Regular water supply would resume on Friday, a corporation statement said.

Last date extended

The last date for issue and receipt of applications for admission to all courses offered by the Directorate of Distance Education, Madurai Kamaraj University, for the current academic year has been extended to October 31, according to a release from the Director, DDE.

CBI's Hindi fortnight

The Regional Office and various branches of Central Bank of India celebrated Hindi Fortnight by conducting various programmes and contests for its staff and their family members.
