Harmony Day oath administered

TIRUCHI: The Collector, K. Nanda Kishore, today administered the Harmony Day oath to revenue staff at the Collectorate in connection with the birth anniversary of the former Prime Minister, Rajiv Gandhi. The District Revenue Officer, P. Senthilkumar, was present.

The Mayor, Sarubala R. Tondaiman, administered the oath to the corporation staff in the presence of the Commissioner, Harmander Singh.

Special coaching programme

The Study Circle functioning at the District Employment Exchange will conduct special coaching programme for candidates appearing for examinations conducted by the Teachers Recruitment Board to select UG and PG teachers, scheduled on Sept. 25, on Aug. 28.

Interested candidates could register their names either in person or through post at the employment exchange on or before Aug. 25, says a press release.

Surprise check in fair price shops

Civil supplies officials conducted surprise check in fair price shops in the airport area on Thursday and slapped a fine on an erring salesman. The flying squad led by the District Supply Officer, A. Ponraj, conducted a check at the ration shop and booked the salesman for preparing bogus bill. He was ordered to pay fine. Later, the team raided a kerosene bunk and seized 20 litres of kerosene being transported illegally. It also seized 14 cans containing 210 litres of kerosene from nearby area.

Held for theft

A special police team on Thursday arrested Selvaraj on the charge of stealing an earthmover that was stationed inside the District Armed Reserve Campus at Subramaniapuram here a few days ago.

The police team held Selvaraj at Palani in Dindigul district and seized the stolen earthmover from him. The arrested person hails from Oddanchathiram in Dindigul district. On Tuesday, the owner of the vehicle, Rajangam, lodged a complaint with the K.K. Nagar police station stating that unidentified persons had stolen the earthmover.

Mettur level

The water level at the Mettur dam stood at 119.30 feet today. The inflow was 49,923 cusecs and the discharge, 18,003 cusecs.
