Dies in accident

TIRUCHI: A 40-year-old man riding pillion on a two-wheeler died after a mini lorry hit the vehicle at Koodangipatti on the Manapparai - Vaiyampatti road in the district on Sunday. The victim has been identified as Rajamani of Chinna Dharapuram. The mini lorry driver, Malai Kolundhu, has been arrested. The Manapparai police have registered a case, police sources here said.

Ganja seized

The city police on Monday arrested a 30-year-old man on the charge of possession of ganja. Police sources here said 1 kg of the narcotic substance was seized from the alleged possession of Asari of Sangiliandapuram, who has been arrested. The sources said Asari was later remanded. The Palakkarai police have registered a case.

Two arrested for possessing illicit arrack

In separate incidents, the city Prohibition and Enforcement Wing (PEW) unit arrested two persons including a 50-year-old woman here on Sunday for allegedly possessing poisonous illicit arrack.

The names of the accused were given as Poovayi and Selvaraj. The PEW unit seized 3.8 litres of illicit arrack in packets from the alleged possession of Poovayi, and 4.3 litres of illicit brew from Selvaraj (40). The two were later remanded. The PEW has registered cases against them.

Misappropriation of funds case against VAO

The K.K.Nagar police here have registered a case against the Village Administrative Officer (VAO) of K. Sathanur on the charge of misappropriation of money collected as house tax from the people.

Though the crime is said to have occurred between December 2001 and March 2002, the complaint was lodged only on June 12, police sources here said. The name of the VAO was given as Jeevanantham.

Police sources here said that the VAO collected Rs.3,820 as house tax but deposited only Rs.1,110 in the government account. He allegedly misappropriated the rest of the amount by preparing forged documents. The accused has not been arrested so far, the sources added.

Four arrested

in assault case

Four persons have been arrested for allegedly assaulting and threatening a 29-year-old man following a verbal quarrel between them near a wine shop at Ex-servicemen Colony, Goldenrock, here on Sunday. The arrest was made based on a complaint lodged by Rajan. The names of the arrested were given as Sundaravelu, Ragavan, Senthil Kumar and Sundaramoorthy.

Police sources here said Rajan mistakenly took the vehicle belonging to the accused after consuming liquor in the wine shop. This led to an argument between Rajan and the accused. In the melee, the four persons allegedly assaulted Rajan and threatened him. The Goldenrock police have registered a case.

Mettur level
