MADURAI, MARCH 17. The city today registered a maximum temperature of 34.6 degrees Celsius and a minimum of 22.6 degrees Celsius.

Water level

The level in the Periyar dam stood at 108.9 feet with no inflow and a discharge of 120 cusecs. The level in the Vaigai dam was 26.02 feet with an inflow of 110 cusecs and a discharge of 30 cusecs. The combined Periyar credit stood at 858 mcft.

SIM cards

Distribution of SIM cards for the BSNL `Excel' pre-paid cards for the applicants registered with the Customer Service Centres and BSNL franchisees in the city between February 10 and 25, would begin from tomorrow (March 18). The last date for getting cards and activating them is March 28 and March 31 respectively. Subscribers could also avail themselves of 100 per cent talk-value of the recharge coupons of the denomination of Rs. 500 purchased till March 31, the General Manager, BSNL, Madurai, M.K. Sudarsanam, said in a statement. The validity of the coupons is 45 days.

Trains to be regulated

In order to facilitate track maintenance works between Madurai and Dindigul, the Tirunelveli-Kumbakonam/Erode Passenger, Nagercoil-Tirupati Express and Lokmanya Tilak-Madurai Express trains would be regulated by 30 to 45 minutes between the two stations with immediate effect for a period of two months, says a Southern Railway press release.

Consumer Day

The Koodal Nagar Consumer Protection Movement organised World Consumer Day on Tuesday.

Resolutions passed at the meeting included enforcement of meter system in autorickshaws, provision of parking space for mini buses and display of timings of their operation at prominent places.

M. P. Rajan, president of the movement, welcomed. J. S. Arthur, secretary, K. Asaithambi, District Revenue Officer, R.M. Sundaram, Regional Transport Officer (North), and S. Subramanian, RTO, (South), spoke. R. Nambuvel, joint secretary, proposed a vote of thanks.
