AIDS patient kills wife, sons; attempts suicide

HYDERABAD, FEB. 26. A factory worker, Ch. Madhava Rao (35), infected with HIV, allegedly killed his two sons — Ajay (3) and Vijay (1) — and his wife, Shanta Kumari (28), before attempting suicide early today in Ramachandrapuram village of Medak district. Mr. Rao, who has been shifted to Gandhi Hospital, here, is battling for his life.

In a suicide note purportedly written by him, it was stated that he was resorting to the extreme step as he and his family members were suffering from AIDS, said the Ramachandrapuram Inspector, Maddipati Srinivas.

Mr. Rao allegedly smothered his two kids to death while they were sleeping and killed his wife by smashing her head with a pestle. Later, he consumed poison.

A neighbour grew suspicious and alerted others, after noticing the bodies through a window. The neighbours broke open the door and found Mr. Madhava Rao struggling for his life and the bodies of his children and wife. He was rushed to the hospital.

He worked as a welder in a private factory at Patancheru."

Nobody is responsible for our deaths. Please don't enquire with anybody about our deaths," Mr. Rao stated in the suicide note.
