Accent on renewable sources

KARUR, AUG. 21. Renewable energy holds the key to burgeoning future energy needs. Creating an awareness among the masses of the need for tapping renewable energy gainfully is of utmost importance. This was stressed by speakers at a seminar organised as part of the Renewable Energy Day here on Friday.

With depleting conventional energy sources and increasing cost of energy generation, the solution to the problems lay in tapping renewable energy sources, T. Kannan, project officer, District Rural Development Agency, observed. T.N. Sivasubramanian, Karur MLA, and L. Ramasamy, Director, Rural Energy Centre, Gandhigram Rural Institute, Dindigul, spoke on the urgent need to popularise use of renewable energy.

Earlier, students from schools and colleges in the district took out a rally holding placards highlighting the advantages of renewable energy and formed a human chain to draw the attention of the public. Winners of essay, elocution and drawing competitions held as part of the day's celebrations were awarded prizes.
