Sir, — Semmangudi represented the original gurukula traditions of Carnatic music. His fans were pleasantly stunned when his first gramophone record was released in 1931. His alapana of `Karaharapriya' was the piece de resistance in the album and was also the talk, for days on end, in music circles.
