People from different religions participated in a Ramzan heritage walk, followed by Iftar, at the Triplicane Big Mosque, also called the Wallajah Mosque on Tuesday evening.
The walk, conducted by historian Kombai S. Anwar, saw over 80 participants including a few NRIs. Participants were taken around the Triplicane area where they tasted traditional sweets and learnt about the holy month of Ramzan.
At the Iftar , participants got to taste the nombu kanji , bananas and other refreshments served by the Sufidar Trust. A group of Sindhi volunteers from the trust served people who visited the mosque for their evening prayers.
K. Sreemathy, a marketing consultant, who has been a part of Anwar’s Ramadan walks for the past three years, said that it is fascinating to see the sevaks of Sufidar Khadim serving people from all religions.
“I liked the fact that people from all communities sat together for Iftar. I got to see and experience this beautiful tradition,” said Sathya Ganapathi, another participant.
The Triplicane Big Mosque was built in 1795.
