TIRUCHI: : K. P. Kiruthika of Arokia Matha Matriculation Higher Secondary School, Karumandapam, who has scored 1058 out of 1,100 in the matriculation examination, is quite happy with her achievement of State-level third and district first distinctions, though she says her expectation was to be a topper.

Her parents, both bank officials, had helped her devote seven hours to study at home beyond the class hours. Her aim, since childhood, has been to become a doctor, she says, thanking her teachers for nurturing her ambition through special coaching. For Kiruthika's teachers, her achievement was on expected lines and not altogether a surprise, since she had been a promising student right from the lower classes.
