A new Pillaiyar temple at AVM studio

CHENNAI: In any Tamil filmmaking unit, `Pillaiyar temple' is a popular spot for poojas. Vijaya and Vauhini studios have well-known Pillaiyar shrines.

A few days ago, there were two pooja invitations for new films. Surprisingly, both were to take place at the same time and the same day. The venue: AVM Pillaiyar temple.

How come? After the AVM studio split after a partition, it now has two shrines. The new shrine is much bigger. Anyone entering the studio will not miss the Pillaiyar Koil. M.S. Guhan, son of AVM Saravanan, says daily poojas were performed in the old temple.

"I took care of the temple and when we parted my father and I wanted to build a bigger one at the entrance." The new Pillaiyar Koil also has idols of Durga, Muruga with Valli and Devayanai and a Navagraga shrine. Ramesh Sthapathi sculpted the idols. The `Selva Vinayagar' temple's consecration was held on June 24.
