TIRUPATIKURNOOL: The celestial wedding of the Lord Venkateswara with his two consorts-- Sridevi and Bhoodevi--was on Friday performed amid religious fervour on the occasion of `Sravana Poornima'.

The grand ceremony in which thousands of devotees participated and offered prayers to the bejewelled deities installed on a special rostrum erected for the festival was to mark the rare and combination of events-- Pournami coinciding with a Friday and Sravana Nakshathram-- the birth star of the Lord Venkateswara.

According to temple priests the three-way unique combination was occurring after a gap of nearly sixty years and considered a most sacred event in the history of the hill temple.

TTD is organising similar `kalyanothsavams' to the deities in all its kalyana mandapams in the State and outside as well to celebrate the event in a grand manner. About thirty pairs of idols of the Lord and his consorts were carved out and despatched to its kalyana mandapams for the purpose.
