High drama on Corporation premises

TIRUNELVELI: High drama prevailed on the Corporation premises for a while on Thursday after chairman of Tirunelveli Zone S. Viswanatha Pandian of DMK submitted his resignation letter to Commissioner T. Mohan.

When Mr. Viswanatha Pandian came to the Commissioner’s office to hand over the letter, Mr. Mohan refused to accept it since this letter should have been forwarded only to Mayor, as per the statute.

In the resignation letter, Mr. Viswanatha Pandian, who was elected to the Council from ward 43, alleged that “interference by Mayor A.L. Subramanian’s kin” forced him to resign the post.

As the news spread, DMK office-bearers, councillors and others tried to appease him.

However, he was repeatedly telling that he would send the resignation letter by post to the Mayor, who did not receive any letter from Mr. Viswanatha Pandian till evening.
