Works taken up in 67 village panchayats

Proposal for `Vision Hosur' sent for Government approval

Krishnagiri: Development works to the tune of Rs. 76 crore have been taken up in 67 village panchayats selected under the Anaithu Gramam Anna Marumalarchi Thittam by converging resources of various departments, said Collector Santhosh Babu on Saturday.

Under the scheme panchayats with low-income sources and Below Poverty Line families would be selected every year. An amount of Rs. 20 lakh had been allotted for each panchayat to take up works including installation of street lights, creation of libraries and upgradation of village markets. An outlay of Rs. 7 crore had been allotted to remove encroachments and beautify Krishnagiri town. Lands had been identified at Agaram village near Krishnagiri for the proposed Sewage Treatment Plant. Works on the Underground Sewerage scheme for Krishnagiri municipality would commence shortly.

Mr. Babu said the district administration had prepared a project `Vision Hosur' envisioning Hosur as a major city by 2015. The proposal had been sent to the Government for approval.

A sum of Rs. 2.84 crore had been sanctioned under the 12th Finance Commission to upgrade, repair and lay new roads to a distance of 49.58 km. Similarly Rs. 7.65 crore had been allotted to take up road improvement works under the PMGSY scheme, the Collector said.
