Special Correspondent

CHENNAI: A woman who promised allotment of Tamil Nadu Housing Board flats to some residents of Thiruvanmiyur and took commission to the tune of Rs.20 lakh was arrested by the Central Crime Branch police here on Wednesday.

Police said J. Sujatha (39) informed locals that she had connections in the TNHB and could arrange allotment of newly built flats coming up in Velachery.

About 21 persons paid commissions, that ranged between Rs.50,000 and Rs. 2 lakh, to the woman.

However, when the allotment orders were not issued by the TNHB, K. Mahesh of Kottur, who had a suspicion, lodged a complaint with the police, saying that he suspected some foul play in the transaction.

A team of the CCB police that made preliminary enquiries arrested Sujatha on charges of cheating. The accused was produced in a city court and remanded to judicial custody.
