Residents undergo untold miseries

The residents of Kathayammal Nagar in ward 50 in the city are a worried lot.

The residential locality, populated by daily labourers who are working in the nearby weaving and dyeing units and some engaged in collecting left out mineral stones from the abandoned quarries, is wearing a picture of total neglect. The entire area is stinking with overflowing sewers and mounting garbage heaps.

The mosquito menace is severe with sleepless nights becoming the order of the day.

It becomes a big cesspool during rainy seasons forcing the children and women to undergo untold miseries. They have taken up their case of grievances to officials concerned in Salem Corporation.

“But none seems to have any interest in solving our problems,” the residents claim.

While the Civic Body is boasting off a series of development works, the area remains untouched by any of these activities. The entire locality has neither motorable roads nor drainage facilities.

They made a fervent plea to the authorities concerned to at least construct drainage channels
