‘Market good for home textile products’

COIMBATORE: Three weaving parks in the Western region are getting ready to commence full-fledged operations, probably in a couple of months.

The works at Komarapalayam Hi-Tech Weaving Park are nearing completion and the park will have about 600 looms, said D. Badyopadhyay, Deputy Director in-charge of the of the Regional Office of the Textile Commissioner. Most of the infrastructure works were completed at the Palladam Hi-Tech Weaving Park and some looms were already installed. Another 500 looms would be installed at the park. The Cauvery Hi-Tech Weaving Park at Komarapalayam would have about 600 looms and already over 200 looms had been installed.

Shuttleless looms

“This office aims to bring in about 2,000 shuttleless looms to this region this year,” he said. The pick rate had gone up in the powerloom centres here and the market was good for home textile products.

This was an indication that the units in the parks would have a good demand for the fabric, he said.

On the labour front, he said that the regional office had forwarded its suggestions to the office of the Textile Commissioner regarding meeting the demand for workers by facilitating employment for those in other States. However, with the slump in the yarn market a lot of mills were cutting down the number of working days and hence, the demand for labour was also not very high now. The market situation needed to improve here, he pointed out.
