ERODE: An unused water overhead tank constructed in C.S. Subramaniam Nagar at Semur area in the Erode-Chitode main road is now in danger of collapsing.

Bank employees of Erode, mainly employees of a nationalised bank, purchased sites at the place and christened the area as CS Subramaniam Nagar.

More than 50 houses were built and on behalf of the people of the area, a big overhead water tank was constructed in 1985.

For the past 22 years, the tank was in an idle condition, waiting for water storage.

Meanwhile, because of the non-use of the tank, it started getting damaged and one of the residents of the area said, “It may fall at any time.”

Another youth told TheHindu, “It is still in my memory that my father and two others demanded the people of the area to start a library below the water tank, by constructing only temporary walls using hollow bricks. But nothing was done.”

Some elderly persons, said to be responsible for the formation of CS Subramaniam Nagar said, “There is no danger to the overhead tank now, as they have decided to effect some repairs.”

But the residents wanted the Collector to depute an official to the area and inspect the tank. If it was found to be in a dilapidated condition, it could be demolished to prevent harm.
