Violence mars polling at 3 PACBs

DINDIGUL: Election for the post of directors in three primary agricultural cooperative banks in Palani taluk has been postponed sine die.

Unruly mobs entered some booths tore ballot papers and stole ballot boxes at knife-point on Saturday. Villagers picketed Palani-Udumalpet main road and demanded action against the culprits. A gang entered a polling station at C. Kalayamputhur near Palani and tore the ballot papers. Election Officer Subramaniam lodged a complaint against Karunanidhi, Sakthivel, Chinna Iyyappan and others on the charges of disrupting election.

Similar violence marred the poll process at Pappampatti and Karadikoottam. Over 20 people barged into a booth at Karadikoottam and destroyed ballot boxes
