Nagapattinam: Gram sabha meetings will be held in all the 434 village panchayats in Nagapattinam district on Independence Day on Wednesday, said Tenkasi S.Jawahar, Collector, on Saturday.
The Collector appealed to the villagers to participate in the meetings, discuss development activities and send proposals to the district administration on works to be taken up in their villages.
The village panchayat presidents should discuss with the local people government’s schemes being implemented for the welfare of the society and encourage self-help groups to start viable tiny units to generate more income for the SHGs. The Collector said that he would explain the government’s employment scheme for providing work to the rural people under the Tamil Nadu Rural Employment Guarantee scheme and highlight the ‘Varumun Kappom’ in one or two gram sabha meetings.
Thanjavur
Grama sabha meetings will be held in all the 589 village panchayats in Thanjavur district on Wednesday, according to a press release issued here by the Collector, C. Vijayaraj Kumar.
Discussions will be held on poverty alleviation programmes, Indra Awaz Yojana, complete sanitation programme, etc.
