Villagers asked to vacate homes, seek alternative sites

They throng the Collectorate and present a petition

The villagers of Kandampatti near here charged that the officials of the Tamil Nadu Slum Clearance Board are urging them to vacate the places where they are living now.

Collectorate

With their children and wards they thronged the Collectorate here on Thursday.

The main demand of the people who are facing eviction is that they be either given alternative sites or adequate time to vacate the places in which they are now living for some time.

Addressing a petition to Collector J. Chandrakumar on the subject of their eviction, they charged that two days ago, the officials came to their homes and demanded that the village people vacate the sites with immediate effect.

They claimed that they should be given the same place for their living or else they would be forced to resort to a series of agitations in support of their demand.

They asked the Collector to redress their grievances immediately so that they could be allowed to live peacefully.
