“State honouring freedom fighters by constructing manimandapams”

Tuticorin: Tuticorin is known for significant contributions by freedom fighter V.O. Chidambaranar, the Minister for Social Welfare, P. Geetha Jeevan, said here on Monday.

Speaking on the occasion of V.O. Chidambaranar’s birth anniversary celebrations at V.O.C. College, she said the State Government was honouring freedom fighters by constructing manimandapams and memorials.

Collector G. Prakash presided over the programme. Later, a tri-cycle was given to a beneficiary.

Besides, a total of 60 persons received certificates on completion of industrial training course.

The training course was provided through Mahalir Thittam. Thirteen women self-help group members from Mapilaioorani received 18 cattle.

The Minister also honoured the heir of V.O. Chidambaranar including V.O.C. A.Sankaranathan, V.O.C.A. Sankaralingam, V.O.C. Ulaganathan and Selvi.

S.R. Jayadurai, MP, M.B. Sudalaiyandi, MLA, Mayor R. Kasthuri Thangam, K. Paramasivam, Project Officer, Mahalir Thittam, P. Bright Xavier, Chief Educational Officer, and others were present.
